The study by Silove et al. (2017) looks into posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
prevalence rates in both gender as a result of gender-based violence (GBV). The article reviews
the main domains of trauma, and they include the network trauma and the gender-based violence,
the study then tries to find the link and to understand the difference in PTSD rates in both
genders. The study was conducted by using data that had a national representation of the
Australian population. The data was obtained from the 2007 National Survey of Mental Health
and Well-being; this was done to assess the gender variations across a complete range of trauma
domain.
The results showed that males had more traumatic events in general but women had twice
the occurrence when it came to lifetime PTSD; women had 13.4% while men had 6.3%.
