Description

The brain, nervous system, and sensory systems work together to shape behavior. Cognitive functions also shape behavior. In this assignment, you will explore the interrelations of brain, nervous system, sensory systems, and cognitive functions in the shaping of human behavior.

General Requirements:

Use the following information to ensure successful completion of the assignment:

  • Must use APA style
  • At least three scholarly research sources related to this topic, and at least one in-text citation from each source be included.
  • No Plagiarism

Directions:

Write a paper of 1,000-1,250 words that addresses the role of the brain, nervous system, sensory systems, and cognitive functions in shaping behavior. Include the following in your paper:

  1. A discussion of the role of the brain, nervous system, and sensory systems in shaping behavior.
  2. A discussion of the role of cognitive function in shaping behavior.
  3. A discussion of the interrelation of the brain, nervous system, sensory system, and cognitive functions in shaping behavior.

Introduction

The most complex of the human body organs and the largest too is the brain.
Additionally, it consists of millions of nerves that help in the communication of billions of
connections that are referred to as synapses. Furthermore, it is the human’s nervous system
central organ. Together with the spinal cord, they make up the central nervous system. It also has
other critical sections that are referred to as the cerebellum, cerebrum and the brainstem. It is also
the organ that controls most of the activities that the body undergoes, and or partake.
Additionally, the brain is involved in the integration, processing and the coordination of the
information received from the sensory organs. After interpretation has taken place, it is then
analyzed, and hence an informed decision may be made while the instructions employed are then
transmitted to the rest of the body.

Notably, through the reflex mechanism, the brain influences largely in behavior shaping.
A sensory motor loop logic can best illustrate what reflex is as it is one of the simple forms of
behavior. Moreover, it can also be described as a response to a particular sensory stimulus which
not only relatively stereotyped but also involuntary. A reflex response is shaped by such sensory
stimulus which is also their main feature. A reflex response production directed by a contraction
of a particular muscle (s) is indeed substantially determined by the location the stimulus is
situated precisely. Thus the contraction of the muscle determines the specific response produced.
In like manner, the amplitude of the generated response is also determined by the strength of the
sensory stimulus. Admittedly, as a result of the brain...
