BIPOLAR DISORDER
Everyone is entitled to different positions in the world depending on what they love and how
well they can manage themselves. It is however unfortunate that a person could have the
motivation to change the world one moment and then not having the motivation to wash oneself
at another. This is due to the occurrence of disorders like bipolar which currently affect a lot of
people. Bipolar is a Psychological disorder whereby one gets alternating periods of great
happiness and depression. A person suffering from this disorder displays patterns of
psychological symptoms that affect many areas of life. These symptoms include; irritability,
severe depression, feelings of worthlessness and guilt, fatigue, lack of concentration and suicidal
thoughts among others. Therefore, anyone experiencing such symptoms should not be taken
lightly but given immediate medical attention before it gets worse. Bipolar disorder was chosen
for this report because I believe its time it is given the seriousness it deserves like every other
disease out there. Even though there are still no better ways to curb the disorder despite its rising
cases, if one is affected by the disorder in one way or another, it is best to identify; its natural
history, methods used to diagnose and evaluate it, methods used to manage the disorder and the
future areas that should be researched regarding the disorder.
First, identifying the natural history of the disorder should be initiated. This involves getting to
know how the disorder develops over time with and without treatment. When Bipolar has not yet

been subjected to any treatment, it is mostly severe and at times can put the person with bipolar
and the people around him or her at risk. It is best when a person suffering from Bipolar is
subjected to treatment or medication immediately it is identified. This is because if it develops,
severe mania and depression could be too much for them leading them to take extreme risks or
even commit suicide. According to (Vann, 2014), severe highs (called mania) and lows
(depression) require treatment, which may mean inpatient care in a hospital. Here they are
observed, diagnosed and treated which helps stabilize their symptoms. Seeking treatment could
take a week or months depending on the individual but despite how long it takes, it is what is
best for them no matter their attitude toward it. After Bipolar has been subjected to treatment,
there is a big difference on how it develops compared to when there is no treatment. The bipolar
individual gets to be able to manage his or her behavior based on what they are feeling.
Consequently, there might be relations and depression but they might be mild and manageable.
Treatment is the best solution one can advocate a bipolar loved one or friend since most of the
time the individuals may not admit that they need medical attention. (Vann, 2014) ,
Secondly, it should be identified what methods are used to diagnose and evaluate Bipolar.
According to (About Us: National Institution of Mental Health), proper diagnosis and treatment
help those suffering from bipolar lead healthy and productive lives. This is achievable when one
visits a doctor or a licensed mental health profession who takes you through physical
examinations to rule out other conditions. If the observed results are not caused by other
illnesses, the doctor conducts a menta...
