The Changing Discussion of International Students Adjustment Issues
Every year students move from one country to the other in search of better education in
new environments, this comes with a lot of challenges on the side of the foreign students. The
problems faced by these individuals include the following, exposure to a different lifestyle and
getting into a new environment of new social and cultural behavior. Social isolation and
loneliness are some of the various challenges faced by these international students especially for
those who had no relatives at all in this foreign environment as penned down by various scholars.
It is indeed true that foreigners have difficulties coping with their new environment not just for
students but even those who go for business trips or for work related issues, these effects are
usually felt within the school environs as well as outside the school. The struggles apparently
seem not to end for these new students as quick as they may think; psychological issues come up
for instance stress where things like diet, housing and transportation become a never ending
problem for them. Thesis: international students face a variety of adaptation and adjustment
issues such as diversity in culture, language barrier and technological complexities. This poses a
great challenge in their academic and social welfare.
Language barrier is a major adjustment and adaptation issue that is quite critical for
international students who are studying abroad to cope with. They need to adapt so fast to their
new environment to be able to cope easily with the academic environments “Language is a big
hindrance in participants’ academic adaptation. Many participants admitted that the Russian

countries. Many participants have to spend time improving their Russian.” As quoted by
