Abstract
Mitigation refers to the process of attempting to minimize the destruction of
property as well as loss of life by reducing the impact of the disaster. To be able to
develop mitigation plan which is effective, the emergency managers need to take
actions before the occurrence of a disaster to minimize the financial and human impacts
by analyzing, reducing and insuring against the risk. It is ordered for the emergency
managers to be aware that the disasters can usually occur at any place and at any time
and therefore get prepared to reduce the impacts of such disasters because if the
managers are not prepared, the results of the disasters may be fatal. Effective mitigation
requires that the emergency managers comprehend the local disasters and risks, address
the choices that are hard as well as investing in the well-being of the community that is
beneficial in the long-term. Without plans for mitigation, the businesses, as well as
individuals, jeopardize their financial security, self-reliance, and safety.
Introduction
