Feeding Patterns of the Child during the First Year of Life
Introduction
It is important for parents to make the appropriate food choices during the first year of s
child’s life. According to scientists, more growth in a child occurs during its first year than any
other time. Therefore, it is important for the child to be fed good and quality food during this
time. When a baby starts eating healthy from birth, it helps the baby develop healthy eating
patterns for life. Feeding the baby his or her first year of life is very important in the
development of the child.
Early feeding patterns directly determine later feeding habits and food preferences; as
well, it has an impact on a child’s physical health. Health issues like obesity or overweight have
been related to the feeding habits or patterns of children in their first year. A healthy feeding
pattern is important for the child since it sets precedence for a healthy eating pattern in the latter
life. Children at this critical age needs parental care and close guidance with frequent visits to the
doctor to check the development and growth of the baby. It is the responsibility of the parents to
ensure the children eat the right foods and the right time and with the right amount. This essay
will discuss more and finally conclusion based on the thesis.
The feeding patterns of children, however, are not same world over. They vary with
societies and other issues like famine, diseases and other factors. It is therefore very difficult to
establish a consistent feeding pattern of children all over. One thing for sure, nutritional
requirements for children is the same and this is the fact that forms the basis of this paper.
At this point, our main question is; what is the feeding pattern of a child in the first year
of life?
