As with other types of tests, there exist various pros and cons of objective tests such as
multiple choice exams over essay exams or short answer tests. Thus, multiple choice exams are
not a panacea. The pros include: in multiple choice exams, it is easy to monitor any possible
cheating and plagiarism as compared to essay exams. Multiple choice exams are cost efficient,
and the faculty is familiar with developing them. Besides, multiple choice exams facilitate rapid
retrieval of feedback through ease of scoring compared to essay exams, (Cohen, 2013). These
exams are time-efficient in administration and answering since it takes less time for a student to
respond a single multiple choice question as compared to an essay question or short answer tests
and thus provide a broad coverage of content and topics as compared to limited coverage in
essay exams.
Another advantage of multiple choice exams includes versatility since these tests can be
utilized for many different subject matters. These tests are also adaptable to various levels of
