Embry Riddle Aeronautical Purpose of the Be Marlboro Advertisement Discussion
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), about 38 million Americans still smoke. Cigarette smoking was especially high among males between 25-64 years old. Since 1964, a warning on the side of each pack of cigarettes has informed the public that smoking is bad for human health and may cause cancer or contribute to other diseases. Still, 480,000 Americans will die of smoking this year (CDC 2020). This figure is shockingly high, exceeding the total number of wartime deaths suffered by 405,399 U.S. military in WW II (Green, 2017). For each smoker who dies, 30 more continue to live with a smoke-related disease. Yet, 15.5% of Americans 18 and younger pick up the habit. The CDC estimates that cigarette and smokeless tobacco industries spent over $9 billion on advertising and promotional expenses in the US in 2018 (CDC 2018).The question is, how do company advertisements get us to do things most of us agree are bad for our health? More directly to this assignment, how do companies use statistics in misleading ways to convince us to buy their product?Sources:Center for Disease Control. (2020). Smoking and Tobacco Use. How Many Soldiers Died in Each War? (KQED) (Links to an external site.)Let's have some fun! Locate an advertisement in print media, social media, or the internet that uses statistical data. Carefully read the ad and then respond to the following in a paper. What is the ad trying to say? What statistical data are misrepresented or exaggerated? What are the undesirable consequences to the consumer? What is an ethical solution that considers the welfare of the stakeholders?Your paper should be two double-spaced pages. MTH122 CSU Global Fencing a Farmer’s Field
Option #1: Fencing a Farmer’s FieldAs a farmer, suppose you want to fence off a rectangular field that borders a river. You wish to find out the dimensions of the field that occupies the largest area, if you have 2000 feet of fencing. Remember that a square maximizes area, so use a square in your work.Draw several diagrams to express the situation and calculate the area for each configuration, then estimate the dimension of largest possible field.Find the function that models the area in terms of one of its sides.Find the point that maximizes the function you found in the second bulleted item.Calculate the area of the field at the point you found in the third bulleted item, and then compare your results with the results in the first bulleted item.Requirements:Paper must be written in 3rdYour paper should be 4-5 pages in length (counting the title page and references page) and cite and integrate at least one credible outside source. The CSU-Global Library (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.is a great place to find resources. Your textbook is a credible resource.Include a title page, introduction, body, conclusion, and a reference page. The introduction should describe or summarize the topic or problem. It might discuss the importance of the topic or how it affects you or society as a whole, or it might discuss or describe the unique terminology associated with the topic. The body of your paper should answer the questions posed in the problem. Explain how you approached and answered the question or solved the problem, and, for each question, show all steps involved. Be sure this is in paragraph format, not numbered answers like a homework assignment. The conclusion should summarize your thoughts about what you have determined from the data and your analysis, often with a broader personal or societal perspective in mind. Nothing new should be introduced in the conclusion that was not previously discussed in the body paragraphs.Include any tables of data or calculations, calculated values, and/or graphs associated with this problem in the body of your assignment.Document formatting, citations, and style should be in APA style
