The imposter syndrome is a psychological term referring to a pattern of behavior where people doubt their accomplishments and have a persistent, often internalized fear of being exposed as a fraud. Not an actual disorder, the term was coined by clinical psychologists Pauline Clance and Suzanne Imes in 1978, when they found that despite having adequate external evidence of accomplishments, people with imposter syndrome remained convinced that they don’t deserve the success they have.
Fear is a vital response to physical and emotional danger; it has strong roots in human evolution. If people didn’t feel fear, they couldn’t protect themselves from legitimate threats.
Managing fears in today's world can be confusing when they don't necessarily correlate with a clear or obvious danger. If fear is overtaking an individual's life, pursuing therapy can help. A qualified therapist can help a patient find ways to let go of fears, develop coping mechanisms, and look for positivity in fear-inducing situations.

Directions: For your module essay, you will need to identify the sources that you use to support your argument. For this assignment, create an Annotated Bibliography of at least 5 sources related to your essay.
Criteria: To fully annotate five sources, your assignment should be 10-12 paragraphs long and include five MLA formatted citations.
Each source should be cited according to MLA Works Cited page formatting guidelines
Each source should include two to three paragraphs of annotation including summary, assessment and reflection.

Module Essay: Breaking Free from Single Stories
Overview: In Chimamanda Adichie’s TEDTalk, she discusses the dangers of stereotypes and what she calls “single stories” that are perpetuated about groups of people. Mariam Thalos discusses the connection between identity and freedom and claims that freedom is the result of self-conceptual acts that often defy social norms and oppressive systems. Nicolas Geeraert points out that the origins of psychology focus primarily on Western culture, and calls for a cross-cultural approach that examines the effects of culture on the shaping of our mental processes. Annie Paul writes about unconscious bias and explains why people create stereotypes. Claude Steele discusses the term “stereotype threat” which affects individuals who are members of stereotyped groups and cultures.
