A6 Short Term Project Future Stars Camp Tennis Balls for Kids 1. The project is consisted on buying better equipment for the camp which will allow the coaches to have a better and easier way to teach tennis skills to the campers, allowing them to enjoy an early success. Tennis for kids is quite different than for adults. A lot of things must be changed in the sport, including the racquet and balls. Knowing that, we bought tennis balls for kids (red, orange and green). These balls are designed to fit the kid’s need, age, and level. 2. Since the campers are very young, we wanted to make sure we have tennis balls for all of them, according to their level in the game. The red ball (46 inches) is designed for kids with age of 5-8. The main goal of a red ball is to build player’s confidence and skill while allowing them to focus on coordination and above all, fun. Orange ball (50 inches) is designed for ages 9-10 . Players at this stage, use the slower speed of the orange ball to focus on specific techniques. Green balls (55 inches) are significantly faster than the other balls. And is designed for kids ages 11 or older. The goal is to maximize the rally in a point. 3. $50 each bag of balls. 9 bags = $450. 4. Outcome: Campers really enjoyed this experience. The other two times I switched for the adult’s ball, they complained and asked me again to play with the color balls. Tri- Weekly Report Weeks 1,2,3. Tennis Camp 1. My first three weeks at my internship exceeded my expectations and I am really enjoying working in here. Every day I feel I am learning something new; the kids have always positive energy which makes me feel more comfortable while I am working. The camp is from Monday to Friday, which means each day we focus on different skills to improve their game. Monday is forehands, Tuesdays is backhands, Wednesday is volleys, Thursdays is serves and Friday is when they play matches. My supervisor helped me a lot during the first week on how I could teach them in the easiest way regarding the movements and grips, which allowed me to conduct the exercises throughout the weeks. 2. The formal meetings are scheduled always on Mondays before we start the camp. We go over what we need to improve, if everyone is feeling comfortable with their assigned tasks and if the kids complained about anything. In all three meetings, my supervisor asked me to make sure to put the balls inside the court ready to play before kids arrive to the court. We switch from group A ( age 10-15) to Group B ( age 5-10). Group A plays with regular balls, while Group B plays with balls that are lighter, bounces lower and slower than regular balls. 3. At this point, I can say the concern is with the behavior of the kids. The biggest challenge for the coaches is to make them listen to what we are saying and to make sure they respect either the campers or coaches. 4. Nothing changes in the agenda for the next three weeks. We will keep the same schedule so far. My goal is to help the kids to have a great time during this summer, having fun and playing a higher level of tennis than when they got here.
