delegates from forty-four allied nations in a hotel known as Mount Washington in Bretton
hence its name. It is also called United Nations Monetary and Financial Conference because
its purpose was to regulate the international monetary and financial order after the end of the
Second World War. After the war, the United States called upon allied countries to send
representatives to attend the international monetary conference so as they could together
