Background:

There is strong evidence in the research literature that a high percentage of information systems projects in organizations are deemed as partial or total failures. A completed project that does meet the planned scope, budget, completion deadline, or quality goals is typically classified as a "failure." Chapters 3 and 4 in your course textbook address information systems project identification, planning, and management.

The Tasks:

Drawing from the information on information systems project management presented in Chapters 3 and 4, and a minimum of four sources on this topic located through web-based research, write a research report addressing the following topics in sections labelled with Level 1, 2, and 3 headings, see sample paper (Links to an external siteLinks to an external site.) for examples of APA headings.

  • A concise explanation of what qualifies as a "success" in an information system project.
  • A discussion of why it is so difficult to succeed in an information systems project environment. In other words, what IS project-related factors typically lead to project outcomes deemed as failures?
  • An identification of, and a convincing argument for, strategies that can be used to potentially overcome the factors identified and discussed in the previous section.
  • An explanation of how a project outcome that meets time, cost, and budget constraints may still be considered as a failure.
  • A discussion of the potential impact of team conflict on project outcomes. What are the types, or categories, of team conflict? Identify and discuss at least three strategies for successfully resolving or minimizing team conflict occurences.

Abstract

It is always unfortunate that many organizations do not have adequate resources to be in a
position take advantage of every of their opportunities to apply the use of the information system
to get benefits or gains for the business. The resources of the organization may be in form of the
capital to seek the services of the external consultants or personnel in an internal Department of
Information System (Mahaney, 2010). As a result of this, it is in order for the organizations to be
sure that they are effectively and efficiently applying or utilizing their available resources to create
greatest results value to the company. A way that is time-tested to carry out this creates a process
for setting the priorities of Information System Advancement which are consistent as well as
aligning with the priorities of the organization. This is commonly known as strategic alignment in
literature. The four general approaches that many companies and organizations use in setting the
priorities for the projects of the information systems include:•

Allowing the Department of Information System to set its priorities.

Creating a cross-functional steering committee to oversee the setting of priorities.

Conducting of the project process of planning.

Management of the Information System Project.

Every employee who is tasked with carrying out any activity in the business, from the
employee who clear or settle bills or expenses to the managers with responsibility to hire and fire
other employees make use of the information system. For instance, a supermarket may apply the
database of the computer in keeping track of the best-selling products; a music business may apply
the computer database to sell their products such as the CDs over the Internet (Weber, 2008). The
information is never valuable if the information does not serve purposes of which it was intended

Information System enables the managers to acquire knowledge and skills to develop systems that
help in retrieving and storing data and information through understanding the computer security,
the computer networks, and the computer databases.

Introduction
The term information system (IS) refers to a system that is well organized to collect, gather,
and store and communicate the information. More particularly, the system of information involves
the study of complementary networks which organizations and individuals apply in collecting,
filtering, processing, creating and distributing data and information (Melville, 2010). The

of the financial information database in a programmed and organized manner that enable it to
generate regular information and reports on the operations for each management level in an
