ER Critique Referral The report about Shelby provided a specific purpose for the evaluation in that Shelby was lagging behind in her education and her difficulty was the reason as to why. The report gives various examples as to why she is difficult such as shouting, showing no courtesy, calling herself stupid among others. The report does not however indicate a clear perspective on who initiated the referral. It could be the mother because she had observed difficulties in her daughter or her teacher who could have observed that she had some problems with her education or from the school psychologist, the evaluator or the other involved parties. According to how the answers have been presented about the report it would be correct to say that the report included a list of evaluations in which the concerned parties had to answer. For instance there were thorough analysis on the physical, emotional, intellectual ,physical, cognitive of Shelby with recommendations being given and analyzed would say that I felt nothing was left to chance while giving the report on Shelby. Parents information As by the report given, Mrs. Walker, Shelby’s mother seems to be very helpful in taking note of her daughter’s activities. She is well aware of almost if not all about her daughter’s life and even in her reflection she gives the notion that her daughter isn’t just like the other kids and there’s something contributing to this. She gives complete answers about Shelby in the evaluation report and the behavioral patterns taking key notes of her actions and reactions. Evaluation results Although the report has identified and given various physical, social cultural background information, I feel that the information given is insufficient to cover the case of Shelby. The observations should have included ever since she was a baby or some time back and not in the current age she is in. Further in the cultural background, there would have been additional relevant information which could have contributed to her current state such as the fact that she is black maybe. Also in the physical background, relevant information such as her development ever since she was a baby would be given including her birthweight to eliminate any chances of hereditary diseases. All in all I feel that this section wasn’t expounded enough. However with this in mind, the report has successfully given clear .current classroom by the concerned parties who include the teacher, Mrs. Happy and the school psychologist, Ms. Kara evaluator. These two individuals have placed Shelby under different assessments and takes note of everything she does, her strengths, weaknesses, what needs improving and so on. They also offer recommendations to the mother who is her teacher at home. She too gives her side of the story on how Shelby fairs when she isn’t at home. Therefore I feel there is a complete analysis on Shelby considering the effort that has been put in the report. Throughout the report after studies conducted and observations done on Shelby there is progress that can be noted in the report. Furthermore these amplitudes and achievements have been listed in a clear manner that can be understood especially by Shelby’s parents. The achievements clearly indicate where she is strongest and where she is weakest. The amplitude results or evaluations give a complete analysis of her performance under different indexes and gives a written outcome according to how she fairs. As by the report this study wouldn’t have been a success if Shelby wasn’t cooperative enough. Therefore her cooperation in taking and being involved in the study proves beneficial. Although she is hard headed in a way patience was administered especially since the teacher notes that she needs extra time to complete her assignments and that she can turn in incomplete work sometimes. For a child It is clear that Shelby required special education and the information provided in this report was very much relevant. I therefore feel that the whole information was relevant in order to arrive at the conclusion that indeed Shelby required special education. Otherwise if the information wasn’t given in the manner that it has under in the format provided within this report, the right evaluation was given. Therefore this information act as the guiding principles to the concluding evaluations Present levels I would say that I am not at all satisfied with the present levels of Shelby’s academic achievements since the students reading decoding and a turn down in her grades and efforts as it is observed. Summary of findings I feel that the report has succeeded in analyzing what is going on in Shelby’s life as far as her education is concerned. Specifically the summary of findings included strong aptitude but not achievement levels. The aptitudes were fine but I feel that according to the efforts, the results would have been more that what was in the report; the recommendations being that she continues with the program. I would have expected more than this . The involvement was above expectation and was done in the right manner and extensively. It involved various parties which were directing their attention on Shelby and observing her closely to monitor her [progress and what would help her achieve more education wise. I feel that Shelby’s strengths were outlined well and so were her needs. The report has outlined them rather well and in a manner that can be understood easily and can be used by third party. The report goes ahead to suggest programs which help and assist Shelby would progress. The overall strengths of this ER are that the process in which students are evaluated is well organized. Secondly, the exercises that the student is made to go through successfully hence enabling the students problems to be perceived. I would say that according to me, it was that it is above average. According to the information provided in the report it is clear that the case involving Shelby has been thoroughly analyzed. There is the evidence of the effort which contribute to the findings that have placed Shelby under the ER program. It is due to her condition ADHD which has been the center of attention throughout the report. However considering that this report was an annual one, I would have expected more from the whole program. However according to what I have understood from the report, Shelby will have to continue with this research until she recovers or a solution is found. This is what makes me rate this report as above average. It would have listed a better recommendation or solution there than the ones listed. Recommendations for improvement On the other hand, the areas of improved are that, the student’s social, cultural, physical and other aspects should be in details. This can be done by not only getting information from the parents but also including some more references. This will ease the process of coming up ways of improving performance. I would recommend that the report shows and indicates the achievement of each analysis indicating its level of achievement and whether it thinks such as undertaking was a success. I think giving opinions would help others to better understand the report and for use by a third party.
