According to Knight, cybercrime is becoming the top problems to businesses (24). It has
many long-term impacts to the stakeholders of a firm, the economic status of the firm and the
business image. In this era of online communication, information processing and transactions
makes cybercrime a major threat to both users and businesses. Users of online platforms are now
suffering attacks from crackers, pranksters, cyber terrorists, salami attackers, cyber bullies and
many other threats. As such, cybercrime is a threat to the prosperity and flourishing of online
businesses and platforms, making it an international concern that requires immediate prevention
and solution. This paper outlines the various impacts of cybercrime to businesses.
The impacts of cybercrime to businesses
One of the major impacts of cybercrime to businesses according to Kshetri, is loss of
assets and money (42). According to a research by Moskowitz, in 2015, small businesses
suffered financial losses averaging $93,000-$388,000 to cybercrime (34). Cybercrime is thus
considered one of the leading causes to closure of small businesses due to the losses incurred.
Apart from that, companies lose their assets, mainly machinery and systems, which are
sometimes targets of cyber-attacks (Moskowitz 37). The best example of this is the attack on
industrial control systems, which renders businesses and companies out of operation. Moskowitz
indicates that attacks on industrial control systems are increasing and went up by 110% in 2016,
