Lisa Jones is a 49-year-old female who has never been married and has no children. Lisa was diagnosed 16 years ago with paranoid schizophrenia. Lisa is on Medicaid but has been turned down for Social Security benefits. She lives alone in a rural town, but her housing is in jeopardy, as she disrupts the other tenants with her rants. Lisa is not on any medication for schizophrenia and refuses to go to the local community mental health agency for treatment. Lisa denies she has schizophrenia, but when her symptoms are exacerbated, she ends up at the local emergency room or is involuntarily hospitalized.

Schizophrenia is a mental condition characterized by disordered thinking, delusions,
hallucinations and paranoid behavior. An individual suffering from the condition is not in a
position to coordinate reasoning with reality which affects how they think and behaves since the
condition affects thought, feelings, and actions (Buckley, 2012). People suffering from this
condition are usually suspicious of others which make it hard for them to hold jobs, run errands,
develop friendships, or even seek medical attention. While most people suffering from paranoid
schizophrenia aren't violent, they can exhibit threatening behavior if they feel angry or
threatened. The condition is life-long with no permanent cure. However, with treatment
individuals suffering from the condition can lead relatively normal lives. Treatment is usually
geared towards lessening or eliminating symptoms such hallucinations, delusions, and jumbled
