Managing Individual Stress
It is due to the daily experiences of life including work and the environment that stress
results. It is a common occurrence among all human beings and unique due to the different
experiences that we have with each one being distinct. The chapter seeks to deal with stress that
results from the work environment for the most part. It is pointed out that it is due to situations
like overload at work, demands from customers, deadlines, financial crises, among others that
stress results. Even so, these situations are inevitable and the chapter seeks to address ways of
which management can be sought.
Stress is deemed to be complicated to facilitate understanding. This is especially when
the aspect of organizations is featured into the picture with the interaction of human beings. It
tends to have the ability to affect the performance of people and their behavior which are facets
that are looked at in organizations. What’s more, even the definition seems to have different
meanings to different people even compounding further the complication. To many people, stress
involves feelings of tension, anxiety or worry whose consequences are often a threat that could
result to either positive or negative results depending on the affected individual. A common
agreement on the matter however is that stress develops from actions and events, or even
situations that end up putting pressure or special demands on an individual.
Depending on the individual or the cause of the stress, consequences can either be
psychological, behavioral or even physiological. Physiological consequences are more serious
compared to the other two since it has the potential of impacting health. This is due to the fact
that it can cause increased blood pressure, affect the immune system or even lead to the
development of heart diseases. Of course, the consequences can be detrimental if the affected
individual cannot deal with the causes of stress effectively. Understanding this in addition to the
