Running head: ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGES

Environment challenges
Student’s Name:
Institutional Affiliation:

A. NAME TWO ( 2) GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGES AND TELL ME WHICH
ELEMENTS OF WASSSEM THEY AFFECT. PUT SOME THOUGHT INTO THIS. REALIZE THAT
MORE THAN ELEMENT COULD BE AFFECTED BY THE ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGES YOU
SELECT. (20 POINTS)

Overpopulation-This means that species population exceed the carrying
capacity of it ecological limits. We have many different species on the
surface of the earth and according to ‘theguardian’ website, the world
accommodates 8.7 million of species. When a certain species increases
beyond it ecological limits it results into overpopulation which in turn has a
number of effects.
Overpopulation may result into that particular species say human being
occupying a space that should be occupied by another species say tree
species. This will result into few trees in that area than it should be.
Consequently this will affect element Water in the WASSEEM as the trees
are involved in rain formation through transpiration in the water cycle.
Overpopulation will also affect soil element in the WASSEEM. This

because when the plant species are replaced by animal species, the soil
becomes loose as it has nothing to hold it together (roots of plants holds
together soil particles to avoid soil erosion)

Nuclear pollution-This refers to the process of transferring electromagnet
waves from one place to another. They are both man-made and natural
radioactive radiations. The natural includes the cosmetic rays and
radioactive minerals that is emitted from rocks and marine sediments. When
these radioactive minerals containing different forms of uranium, thorium
and plutonium is emitted energetic radiation causing pollution. Man-made
sources include nuclear plants, radioactive wastes and atomic bomb testing.
When these radiation are moved from one place to another, the high energy
waves causes high damage to living organisms like plants species which are
in the WASSEEM. This will also affect air in the WASSEEM as the air
becomes hot and change its smell due to the radiations.

B.

EXPLAIN THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS OF ANIMAL AGRICULTURE. IN WHAT WAYS DOES
IT IMPACT THE ENVIRONMENT AND ECOSYSTEM?

(20 POINTS)

Global climate-Animal agriculture is industrial production of livestock for
human consumption. This cause different producers of livestock to keep
large herds of livestock than it should be to maximize profit. According to
Climatenexus , in order to accommodate 70 billion animals that is raised
annually for human consumption, a third of planet’s ice-free land surface is

occupied and also sixteen percent of fresh water. This will affect the
ecology system. This results into global climates such as global warming
also known greenhouse effect is fast heating of earth resulting into glaciers
melting, cold forests drying up and seas levels rising.

Land pollution-keeping too many livestock over small area of land
pollution. This results into animals consuming the vegetation in that area
and living little or nothing on the surface. This in turn makes the soil loose
as it has nothing to hold it nothing to hold its particles together. When it
rains the loose soil is carried away leaving ditches and holes on the surface
of the earth. The land consequently becomes unproductive as the top layer
has been taken away.

Water shortage-Water is one of the important essentials of life. This means
it has to use in the right manner to avoid shortage. Animal agriculture has
increase water usage in the globe resulting into imbalance to other users. In
California Animal agriculture account for 47% of the total water usage
meaning that the rest of water users has very little to share.

C.

EXPLAIN THE IMPACT OF THE VIDEOS YOU SAW BY PRINCE EA (MAN VS. EARTH AND DEAR

FUTURE GENERATIONS- SORRY!). WHAT ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES DO THEY ADDRESS?
TELL ME IN DETAIL HOW HIS MESSAGE EFFECTS THE WAY YOU THINK ABOUT THE
ENVIRONMENT. (20 POINTS)

Impact of the videos
This videos make the viewer aware that the earth is the only home for human being as it is the only planet
in the universe that supports life. It makes aware the viewer that when we destroy the earth we have no
other home. The earth is beautiful when it is not polluted. The video creates a filling that we are only

species to protect our planet as we have wisdom. It makes view away that wisdom is not creating big
machines and equipment’s but protecting what naturally we have in the process of creating new ones. The
videos address environmental challenges that are caused by human being. Although 70% of planet earth is
water, human being has polluted the water bodies like oceans, lakes, rivers by disposing wastes into them.
Environment Issues addressed by the videos
The Environment issues addressed by these vides are pollution of the environment and its effects. The
cause of environment pollution are;

Releasing smoke from industry into the air

Throwing away plastics materials

Channeling wastes from industries into rivers and oceans

Cutting sown of trees

This in turn has a number of effects.

Desertification as a result of cutting down of trees

Land pollution as a result of throwing away plastic materials

Global warming caused by greenhouse effects that is caused by releasing gases into the
air.

Dirty water as a result of channeling wastes into water bodies

Effects of videos on how I think about environment
Environment is what is next to me. It is my neighbor. This means when it is affected I too will
be affected. Even when am producing products let say food materials, I should be mindful on what am
using as inputs and also what will be the output. If I don’t do these and let’s say am a farmer, when am
not mindful of the fertilizer am using I may spoil my piece of land and left out in the future having
nothing to produce at all.
