Commander Melissa Lewis (Chastain) and the rest of the mission team believe he is dead. When he reestablishes communication with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the agency's direc- tor, Teddy Sanders (Daniels), decides not to notify the Ares crew that Watney is alive lest it distract them from their mission. He also blocks efforts to notify the crew that the quickest way to rescue Watney is to return to Mars using their Hermes spacecraft. Introduction
This movie basically revolves around the life of an astronaut referred to as Mark
Watney. The movie begins when a group of astronauts is sent to a manned mission to
Mars. Unfortunately, a very fierce storm occur which lead to Astronaut Mark Watney
being hit by a receiver and flown away to a distance. The rest of the crew search for
him to no avail and in the end leave he behind thinking that he is dead. It comes with
a surprise however that Astronaut Mark Watney survived the storm. The crew,
however, reported back to the NASA team on earth that he is dead and the sad news
has been announcing officially to the people. With the lack of communication back to
Earth, Astronaut Mark Watney is left stranded on a hostile with very little to eat. The
little food gives some sols which are the timing units on Mars to find a means of
communicating back to the NASA team on earth so that he may be rescued. After
doing all he can, a signal finally reaches back to earth that he is still alive hence the
NASA team work tirelessly to bring Mark Watney back home. It is not only the
NASA team that plans the rescue mission. The rest of the crew that left him behind on
Mars also plan the same despite the fact that they have not yet returned from their
mission. All in all, the movie comes to an unfold when Mark Wayne is safely
evacuated from Mars to earth to a great heroic reception (MacIsaac, 2015).
