Description

write an essay Analysis of Online Source

Suggested length: 3-5 pages

Remember to use parenthetical citation (MLA format) every time you quote or paraphrase.

you will be starting to find and evaluate sources for the research project. While you are required to include a certain number of academic sources from books and scholarly journals, you will also be able to include one or two sources that you access from the internet. For Paper Two, you will find and evaluate one such source using the critical analysis skills that you applied for Paper One.

The purpose of this paper is to practice analyzing sources to determine what is and is not reliable. Begin by searching for information about your chosen topic online. Consider all aspects of the source—appearance, accessibility, font, organization, etc.

I choose this source

https://psmag.com/environment/brief-history-loch-n...

First briefly summarize the work, presenting the main points of the text in a condensed form and in your own words. After you have summarized the author’s main points or key ideas, you must then evaluate them, assessing their validity and/or effectiveness and reliability. You must present your arguments without using first person. Readers will assume that ideas presented are your own unless you cite a source.

Further Guidelines (Your paper must have all of the following components):

Introduction: Provide some background and context information. Make it clear to the reader the title (and author, if applicable) of

the source you are analyzing. Make sure to have a thesis statement that presents your assessment of the source and

some kind of essay map that prepares readers for the organization of your paper.

Summary: Give a brief summary of the text, presenting the main ideas in your own words. Describe the source in general. On

what website did you find the article if there is an article, or what is the website in general from which your information is coming. Be sure to discuss the author’s purpose. Remember to leave out all details and to avoid any repetition in the original source.

. Note: Avoid stating your opinion in the summary; opinion should

be withheld for the analysis and response portion of the paper.

Analysis & Response: Assess (evaluate the effectiveness/validity of) the author’s presentation. The assessment may either address or be separate from your response—your agreement or disagreement. Comment on whether or not the author successfully achieves his purpose; to do this task, please discuss two or three specific points of critique. Begin by briefly restating the author’s point that you are addressing or by stating your observation/argument, and then comment on the author’s evidence and reasoning in reference to his success in achieving that point. This part of the paper should be the majority of the paper and is the main focus. Use the following questions (as applicable) as a basis for your analysis:

  • What is the author’s purpose?
  • What are the key features of the text and its layout.
  • What makes you think that the source is reliable or not reliable?
  • Does the author or site achieve its purpose?
  • If there seems to be an argument, is it effectively presented and supported? How so?
  • Does the site acknowledge sources?
  • Is there any indication of the author’s credentials?
  • Repeat this process for each point you analyze.

Purpose: While part of your job is to provide information about the source you are reviewing, you are also trying to convince the reader what makes the source reliable or not—or what seems credible and what does not.

Conclusion: In your conclusion, state your overall reaction to the validity of the author’s work. Evaluate how well he achieves his purpose, and restate the strengths and weaknesses of the text.

Loch Ness Monster
Introduction
Loch Ness Monster is one of the weirdest creature on earth although it is a mere myth.
This particular article actually gives a brief history of the monster that existed on the land long
before 1933. The article was lastly updated or rather posted in 23rd September 2014 by Katie
Heaney. However, the story is not only interesting but also informative since very few people
know about the monster by the name Loch Ness. The Loch Ness Monster is a sea beast that
lived around or rather in River Ness and hence it derived its name from the river. The entire
story of the monster informs the readers of the creature’s existence although some skeptics
suggest that the stories about the monster are just but mere beliefs or rather imaginations and
hence the creatures did not exist at all.
Article Summary
The source of the story on Loch Ness Monster states that the creature was actually
spotted by local residents as it crossed the road near River Ness. Mr and Mrs Spicer describe
the creature as being 4 feet tall, 25 feet long as well as having 12 feet neck. Although the
observers could not see the limbs of the creature clearly, it seemed to be chewing some lamb
in the mouth heading to Loch. However, this particular source or rather article about the
monster uses some other supporting sources such as Daily Mail to support the fact that the
Loch Ness Monster is neither an imagination nor a legend but a fact.

As a result of the news delivered through the newspaper, the British reports were in
great disbelief and therefore they had to do some more research on the monster in Scotland.
Wetherell, one of the researchers that spend some time in the Loch established that the monster
was real and that it was actually twenty feet long as well as the largest game-hunter. The
contradiction on the whole issue appears when the research findings and investigations proved
that the prints belonged to a hippopotamus and not the monster. Even though people remained
divided on whether the monster was a legend or a fact for quite some time, Robert Wilson, the
British Colonel captured the Loch Ness Beast on a camera a year later. He actually took the
picture in the wee hours of the morning when he noticed that something strange was moving
in the River Ness waters.
The interesting fact about the picture is that the photo had been hoaxed by attaching a
serpentine’s head to a submarine toy and therefore it was not a real picture. Moreover, the
matter remained to be a hoax until 60 years later when the remains of the beast were revealed.
Another contradiction arises when the remains were found to resemble those of a whale or an
octopus. However, many people believe that the only habitat that can hold a monster without
being noticed is the ocean but not in the rivers.
This particular article on the Loch Ness Monster is found in the Pacific Standard
website. The website majorly explores all the aspects that shape human behaviour as well as
the sea creatures that contradict actuals beliefs and facts. In addition, the author’s purpose is to
clarify the issue on monsters and particularly the Loch Ness Monster.
