Civil Rights Movement When in congress Lydon B. Johnson was considered a racist who fought against the passing of the Civil Rights Act was crude and viciously attacked blacks with racial slurs and gestures. As President Lyndon B. Johnson, he would be what you would call a switch hitter...he fought to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1957, restored the Voters Rights Act and lifted the racist immigration restrictions. Could the gesture of his racism have been a learned behavior, while the display of his morals and conscience being a true image of who he really is? Is he or Isn't he? President Obama said that the past isn't the past and we are still contending with the injustice of African-American inequality. Obama would continually address the issues of racial inequality and voter discrimination, so that it wouldn't be a forgotten or excepted pass time. As for Trump and his administration, we are already doomed. Civil Rights protections are already discarded. With in his first 100 days in office he has already attempted to dismantle Obama Care, immigration reform, access to voting, funding and jobs to the Department of Education and stop funding to programs that aid communities like Flint, Michigan. We as a Nation still had a long road ahead of us with paths paved and progress made to possibly be destroyed by an apparent racist, who is determined to show who's in command and there's nothing we can do about it. RACE How can President Lyndon B. Johnson properly address racism when he was a racist himself? Johnson display his disdain for minorities by his racial comments. For example Johnson asked his chauffer, Robert Parker, " whether he'd prefer to be referred to by his name rather than “boy," “nigger” or “chief.” When Parker said he would, Johnson grew angry and said, “As long as you are black, and you're gonna be black till the day you die, no one's gonna call you by your goddamn name...as noted in "Lyndon Johnson was a Civil Rights Hero. But also a racist. " He referred to the Civil Rights Bill as the nigger bill. In spite of Johnson's racist position I was s was very surprise to read that he instructed J Edgar Hoover to crush the Klu KLux Klan. Although he was denigrating in terms of his treatment of minorities Johnson signed 60 bills that advance the War on poverty. Johnson signed Voting Rights Act that outlawed poll taxes and literacy test barriers to minorities ability to vote. The Civil Rights Bill prevented discrimination in housing sales and rentals. Lyndon B. Johnson Medicare Amendments to Social Security Act provided medical care for millions of elderly people. President Obama stated that we need to end racism by coming together as a nation. Obama advocated for unity expressing the fact that as a nation our failure to come together impedes our growth and development in the areas of science and technology. Obama like Johnson utilize Medicare to provide medical coverage to a nation that did not have equal access to Health Care for one reason or another. Almost anyone and everyone could qualify for medical insurance under Obama Care. Obama Care or other health insurance was mandatory under the Obama administration. President Donald Trump and his administration needs to focus on racism. Trump could sway public opinion by emphasizing Black Lives Matter. There should be new legislation enacted to address police brutality. I would recommend Trump take the same approach has Lyndon B. Johnson in crushing the Klu Klux Klan. It may require a special task force designed to eradicate the increase police shooting of black males. It would be a major boom to our economy and public opinion if Trump enlarged on Obama Care as opposed to eliminating the health care coverage of millions Americans. Members Of Congress- Maxine Waters 14th Congresswoman Maxine Moore Waters is 78 yrs. Old and received her B.A. from California State University. Maxine is an incumbent, serving her term with California's 43rd District. The Congressional committees that Maxine is serving on is the House Committee on Financial Services, Capital Markets, Securities and Investment, Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit, Housing and Insurance, Monetary Policy and Trade, Oversight and Investigation and Terrorism and illicit Finance. Maxine has Sponsored 342 bills and co-sponsored 3,467. One of the latest bills introduced by Congresswoman Maxine Waters was H.R. 2934-Deny Russian Access to Diplomatic Compounds Act. This bill is to prohibit access to and use of certain Russian-owned diplomatic facilities and properties by the Government of the Russian Federation, and for other purposes. The last action on this bill was 06/16/17, when it was referred to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. I think that this bill will pass the house and the senate, but will not pass Trump because of the ties that he and his family have had with Russia for over thirty years.
