Engineering and Teamwork
Engineering, in any of its branches, today requires teamwork. Although some of its activities of
design and analysis can be performed solo, most engineering tasks are teamwork. The problem
we face is that most of the Engineering Schools don´t teach how to do a good teamwork and be a
great teammate.
And when we talk about teamwork we mean a consolidated team, where everyone knows what,
when and how to do their tasks. And obviously everybody does their part. This is very different
from the high school or college teams, where only one works on the project, another is in charge
of food, the third gets the place to work (generally their own room), another drives the car, and
the last does nothing at all.
Good working team is like a bicycle, because you need to keep the balance to move forwards. It is
especially true when conflicts appear. Conflicts can arise from almost every aspect of the personal
and professional relationship amongst team members.
