2.0 Company Description/History/Background
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is a global tire manufacturing company that was
founded in 1898 by Frank A. Seiberling and based out of Akron, OH. With only 13 employees
Goodyear began production in 1989 with a product line of bicycle and carriage tires. Today the
company employees over 67,000 employees and $20 billion in sales. The iconic symbol inside the
Goodyear “Wingfoot” was established 1917 with seven Wingfoot Express trucks making routine
routes between Arkon and Boston.
The company sales a line of retail and commercial new tires products under the Goodyear,
Dunlop, and Kelly name, with over 1800 retail stores and 200 commercial tires centers across the
US. Goodyear sales approximately 55% of its tires in the overseas market mainly in Asia and the
Pacific. Goodyear stock trades on the NASDAQ under GT and the company is volume valued at
$8.8 billion.
