Invidious Comparison and Vicarious Traumatization
Invidious comparison refers to a form of discrimination whereby individuals get
discriminated as a result of comparing them to others. The perception that one is better than the
other usually arise and this scenario in most cases has led to the wrong judgement of other
people. For vicarious traumatization, individuals are affected emotionally, spiritual, or physically
when they come into contact with events or materials that affected them in their previous lives.
Such people are at times frightened, feel threatened, stressed or anxious as a result. Vicarious
trauma incidents make individuals fail to fulfill their responsibilities (Phoenix, 2014).
In several instances in my life, I have found myself in invidious comparison and
vicarious traumatization. Sometime back, I paid a friend of mine who lives in Iowa a visit. He is
a social guy and always invited friends to his homestead. This was the first visit to his place.
Three of his friends also attended. After dinner, we went to the sitting room where we had all
kinds of men talk, about school, the ladies we saw there, among several others. However, when it
