Difference between communication and gendered communication
Communication is the process of exchange of information from one party to another
through the help of a particular means which can be either verbal or non-verbal. On the other
hand, gendered communication is the mode of communication which is guided by invisible rules
that both women and men use to aid in their communication process. There are different rules for
males and females about what is wrong and what is right. Something that might be considered as
hurtful, baffling or bad in one gender might not be the case in another gender. So gendered
communication is simply communication between and about people.
Both men and women have different ways of communication. For example, the male
connection is usually direct, commanding and brief when making decisions while on the other
hand women tend to be based on asking questions, and tends to use rhetorical questions to
influence and lead other to making a particular decision. Men tend to avoid eye contact, talk with
authority and tend interrupt other’s space while talking. On the other hand, women tend to
maintain a close eye contact and tend to pause to let other to take turns in speaking (Gillespie,
2013)
