Question one: Is truth in marketing an oxymoron? Read the label, "… lose weight
without dieting or exercise…, blocks the absorption of fat or calories…, lose 6 pounds in
two weeks…" Discuss these marketing claims based on your understanding of the
Health & Safety protection laws like the Pure Food & Drug Act
This appears to be an exaggeration. It is not possible to lose weight without observing
the diet and doing exercise. This is a tactic that is that is unethical and amounts to be termed
as a misleading statement. It is meant to attract the attention of the customers, but in a real
sense the claim is not practical (Davidson, Keegan & Brill, 2004). It is against the standards
guidelines of the health and safety guidelines regarding losing weight. Customers are likely to
be deceived by this marketing statement and end up spending on the wrong product. Whether
the statement is intentional or not, it is unethical and illegal (Ferrell, Ferrell & Thorne, 2016).
