Researchers are expected to follow the standards established in the APA Ethics Code to
protect the rights and welfare of research participants (cite). Ethical issues in psychological
research include risk/benefit ratio, minimal risk, confidentiality, informed consent, privacy,
deception, debriefing, plagiarism, the use of animals and publication credit. It's only ethical to
conduct a research if the benefits are greater than the risks. The researchers are not supposed to
expose anyone involved in the research to risks more than what may be experienced in everyday
life. Participants personal information that they do not wish to be known by the public should not
be exposed, and therefore reports identify the participants as anonymous. Participants should be
made to understand nature, risks, and ways in which their rights will be protected before being
involved in research. It is unethical to lie about anything to participants. Animal participants
should be treated humanely, and information should be credited to sources.
