After reading the New York times newspaper of 2nd April 1989 and the New York Times of 14th
June 2017, some of the common themes exposed in the newspapers include politics, sport news,
business news, world news and innovations. For example, 2nd April 1989 New York times paper
had an article on politics about the cold war while the 14th June 2017 paper political page had an
article on American lethal politics.
The front page of the past paper talked about cold war in the United States of America. The
headlines indicated that political climate of the united states of America was full of killings done
not using arm forces power of the bullet but rather war done in a cold way.
From reading the paper, it was clear that there were a lot of unexplained killings and general
torture in the united states of American. Some of the topics that dominated the paper included
Parole board rules that O.J Simpson is free after nine years of state imprisonment, a woman was
shot dead by an officer in Minneapolis, long suffering Texas democrats continue suffering after
the lawmakers meeting and Trump Aides seeks Leverage.
According to the paper, the economic climate seemed to be characterized by hard times not only
for the united states of America but for the whole world. Some of the topics about economy

discussed on the paper include the decline of the Us dollar, Trumps intention to implement new
tax reforms, ban of laptops on US planes lifted and shutdown of the leading online black market.
On the social market, the old newspaper advertised the various jobs on offer both in New York
city and other big jobs in the state.
Moreover, the old paper did not give enough details on the outlined subject and therefore it was
difficult to determine what was exactly taking place. Unlike the 2017 newspaper where a lot of
information is provided describing the issues pertaining politics, economy and social situation of
the united states of America.
The formats of the old newspaper and the new newspaper are not very different since both papers
had news divided into politics, markets, jobs, sports, Us news and the world news. However, the
new paper has the option of reading online while the old newspaper was typical a hard copy.
From the old newspaper, it is very clear that America was in a hard-economic state characterized
by the many economic constrains.
During the writing of the old paper, the united states of America was witnessing so many civil
and industrial strikes due close of many industrial companies while most workers of operational
companies complained of poor working environment. It is also during this period where most
social activists were leading groups of people defending human right especial and condemning
violence against women, discrimination of women in work places, racial discrimination in
schools and health facilities.
American political news according to New York Times in 1988 and 2017 New York times of 4th
April 1989 can serve as a primary source of information in research in that it can be used to get
primary data on how the American people felt concerning governance, economy and general
politics. Moreover, the past paper can also be used to trace the transformative path of the united
