These are my peers response to this weeks discussion. I need to respond to there posting. I have to respond to them. The following is the question for the discussion: Imagine that you are supervising ten employees in a small company. Describe how you might use the material in this chapter to encourage more effective problem solving and creativity. Then describe the activities you would want to avoid because they might hinder problem solving and creativity. My book for this class is as follows: REQUIRED TEXTBOOK: Matlin, M. W., & Farmer, T. A. (2016). Cognition. (9th ed.). Hoboken, NJ: Wiley. Peer 1 I would use the information in this chapter to build team exercises and encourage everyone to participate in order to build communication skills and truth skills. Teaching employees to pay attention to detail and focus on the task at hand is important for the employees to know and perform effectively. Using diagrams and charts to track progress would also be helpful. My company uses hierarchical tree diagrams to show the chain of command for our entire company. Activities to avoid during problem solving and creativity would be things like divergent production tests because creativity requires both novel and useful solutions. Avoid activities that may cause people to conflict with each other unless its team building. Controversial issues can get people stuck in a corner. Peer 2 • The information learned in this chapter concerning problem solving is most effective and some of what I learned was never a thought to me. If I had ten employees and we collectively needed to solve a problem, the first thing that I would do is share what I learned in from this chapter. I would not give full details but give the most important points. Hopefully this information would enable my employees to make a decision that matters. The information could make the problem solving fun for my employees as it would be a different way for them. Thing that would interfere with problem solving to be avoided is irrelevant information, emotions, and the environment. When the problem is presented to the employees, then there would be no facial expressions or body movements that interrupt the problem solving process. Peer 3 • I would use the analogy approach to solve problems effectively. I would use this approach because if I have found a solution that worked before I can use this solution again to quickly solve a problem with some of the similarities of the last problem. I would also use the hill climbing heuristic because I'll be able to use the solution to the problem that will quickly lead me to the root of the issue and solve it. The solution that I would less likely use would be the means end heuristic approach. I would less likely use this approach because it would take too much time to break a problem down to get to the root and them solve it. With supervising ten people that would take up too much time and slow down production. When solving a problem in a business you always need a quick sufficient solution.
