1) The Gilded age: From 1870 to 1900 this new era in the United States hisoty was a time
of huge economic growth a time were the United States suprassed the European Super
powers. The name means a time were the outside was coverd with gold but not really
the insed as it was a time of much social conflict.
2) Hull house: Founded in Chicago in 1889, by Jane Addams and Ellen Gates. One of the
first social settlements in North America. This house which grew every year until it was
almos a whole chity block was responsible for helping thousands of European imigrants
and set the standards across the United States.
3) Trust busting: In a time that monopolies ruled the United States, President Thedore
Rooselvts started prosecuting monopolies or trusts that violated federal antitrust law.
This policy was knos as trust busting.
4) NAACP 1909: National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was one
of the earliest and most influential civil right organization. It was forme because of the
horrific lynching practices in the south and the race riot in Springfield. It was formed
by a group fo white liberals that were horrified by the terrors inflicted to African
Americas.
5) “White slave panic” (1906-1913, mostly): A term used by people that insisted women
would never choose to work as sex servants for financial reasons. Instead this women
were being forced into prostitution by men especially imigrants.This gather more
support for intesnse racist immigration policies.
6) Women’s suffrage during WWI(The fight for women’s suffrage intensifies, 1912-1918):
Since the start of the war women had to support men roles in various industries. This
had a change in mens perspective and in womens fight for equal rights. All this changes
made it posible for the woman vote to become a reality in 1920.

1) Roosevelt Corollary (1904) : President Theodore Roosevelt felt the United States was
ready to take a more direct approach in policing the involvent of European nations on
the Region. After the Venezuela crisis The president stated in his state of the union

address that the United States will intervine in conflicts between European countries
and Latin America.
2) Panama Canal (1914): On august 15, 1914 The panama canal finally open. This was so
important because it told the world about the might of the United States engineer and
gave the country a new place as a major player on the world stage.
3) Debs jailed: Eugen V Debs a member of the democratic party was arrested and found
guilty on the charges of violating an injuction. During his imprisonment he was
introduced to socialism.He founde de Social Democratic Party of American later the
Socialist Party of America and ran for president 3 times.
4) Bhagat Singh Thind: He was a civil right activities that fought and importat legal battle
for the right of Indian Americans. During a time were the color of skin matter a lot hes
citizenship was revoked.

Week3
1) Mobilization: It was a systematic mobilization of the countries entire population and
economy to produce the soldiers, food, supplies, ammunitions, and money necessary to
win the war
2) Blue Discharges: Durign war time officiers did not have time to put a court matial in
place for homosexual acts. Instead they used something called a blue discharge which
wasn’t honorable or dishonorable but did caused a lot of problems to whom ever got
