of the States share the guidelines in selecting judges. Another common thing in the selection
process is that all judges serve for a certain period of time upon which one is supposed to be
elected to serve in the judiciary for another term. In this paper, the main focus is the selection
process of the judge in Tennessee State. It also evaluates the similarities and differences between
Tennessee State selection processes against Texas State.
Texas and Tennessee States share some common procedure in selection process since
they use the elective method of selection. However, some differences are clear in the
implementation process. The two states also have some differences in the required qualification.
They also differ in the number of years each term has. Furthermore, the states also differ in the
way the retirement age a judge. Finally, the states have different methods of removing a judge
from the judiciary services.
Tennessee Selection Process
The selection process in Tennessee differs from court to the other based on the level of
the court. The selection of the appellate judges is done by the help of the Tennessee plan. This is
a plan that uses the assisted appointment. The assisted appointment method is also referred as the
merit selection. The stage government appoints the judges with the help of a board.
Commissioners are appointed who reviews the applicant’s resumes. The commission also
interviews and screens the candidates for the position in the judicial system.
