THE PROJECT Just when you though we were done talking about The Crucible, we are going to stick with it for one more activity. But we are moving away from the Puritans, if that makes it better. The Crucible is widely acknowledged as an allegory for what is known as McCarthyism. In this project, you will be exploring the McCarthy period and the more recent developments following the terrorist attacks of September, 2001. After conducting your own original research on McCarthyism and the Patriot Act, you will examine the relationship among those events and The Crucible. You should be able to devise a solid thesis which examines how these three things are connected and what connection they play with the world around us. In this essay, you must to develop a clear argument and support your argument with research. When applicable, you may include references to your own personal experience. The essay should be a minimum of 3 pages (not counting the title page and Works Cited page) and follow MLA formatting guidelines. The following pages in this unit will help you construct your paper and give you direction in using your research correctly. Be sure to ask questions if you are having problems with citations or with creating your Works Cited page. You will submit a first draft for my comments and feedback. While you are waiting for my suggestions, proceed to the next two units on Editing Strategies and Analytical Writing Rubric. These will be helpful when you prepare the final draft. All papers must be typed. 2. Outline, including thesis statement or statement of purpose 3. Content consisting of a minimum of three pages 4. In-text citation. Those who cannot recall the past are destined to repeat it. History is a consecutive record
