1. What do you think of smart grid technology? Explain 2. What effects would you expect to see on energy usage with the increased development of a smart grid? 3. The grid that we are dealing with now is old and not efficient. All experts indicate that we should do something about the old grid and use the new technologies. However, there is not much money and resources available. What do you think it should be done to get the resources for the fixing the grid? 4. that grid should be reliable and needs to be updated almost everywhere. Do you think addition of a specific tax for this purpose is wise and could work? 5. What do you know about fuel cells. Provide us with a short description 6. Fuel cells are a possible solution for storing and using natural gas. Fuel cells are currently used in spacecraft and military installations, but are uneconomical for private use. Do you think fuel cell research should be pursued as an alternative to current energy sources? Why?

1. What do you think of smart grid technology? Explain
The smart grid technology is necessary because the current grid does not adequately meet
the suppliers and consumers requirements. The smart grid technology is of great benefit because
to start with it will reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere due to
electricity generation. Currently, electricity generation is the largest source of carbon dioxide
emission (Dincer, et al. 105). A smart grid is more flexible and allows for more usage of
renewable sources such as wind energy and this reduces emission of carbon dioxide into the
atmosphere and as a result reduces climate change.
The smart grid uses technologies that allows for a self-healing grid and enhanced fault
detection. As such faults can be corrected or detected without the engineers coming into play.
This makes the smart grid more reliable than the traditional grid.
The smart grid can also lead to lower power prices due to its higher efficiency. For
example, it allows for demand-side management where some electrical appliances such as air
conditioners can ...
