Description

  1. Start to craft a “solution” to your problem: Provide a thesis statement that contains ACTOR + ACTION + GOAL. For example, you might say, “PGCC [ACTOR] should build a parking app [ACTION] to help reduce incidents and overcrowding in the school parking lot [GOAL].”
  2. Consider feasibility concerns and objections to your solution. List any feasibility issues you’ll have to address, such as cost, time, people, etc. Try to respond to these issues, using sources as needed. For example, for a PGCC parking app, how much do you think this app would cost? You can do some research on app costs. How will the app be paid for? Parking passes are currently free, but maybe you could have students and staff pay $20 for a parking pass for the year. Who will produce this app? Maybe you can do some research on classes here at the college that might be able to build the app as a project. You want to provide this research for us, so it’s clear you’ve thought about your solution.
  3. In this week’s responses, give your peers feedback on their solution. Don’t simply say “I like this” or “sounds good.” Instead, point out any other feasibility issues you think of. If you have any idea for how they could make their solution even better, help them out. If you know of any good sources that might help, provide those sources.Week 8: Identifying A Problem1. Problem #1: Peer pressure influences gang behavior
    1. Solution: Instead of peer pressure leading to gang behavior develop more programs they can be involved in, workshops, more sports programs, developing more work programs, and more educational programs. The ATV’s that are on the streets in the DMV are ridden in gangs, instead of trying to catch them to fine them or jail them, why not develop a place where these ATV’s can be ridden at and charge tax dollars and they will be off the street where it is safe for our communities. Many of them are not educated.

High school students should get more involved in the most beneficial programs like
workshops, educational and sports programs as well as work programs so as to reduce their chances
of being tempted by their peers to get involved in gang life where they end up in jail or even death
in extreme cases.
The feasibility of these solution programs will be affected by factors like the cost required
in setting up of such programs, that is, educational programs, work programs and sports programs.
The cost of setting up the workshops is also relatively high and hard to raise. The limited access
to public funds makes it difficult to help the high school students who are more likely to get
tempted to join their peers who are gangsters. The limited access to human resources required in
helping the high school students in the above-mentioned programs is also a major barrier towards
saving the high school students from being influenced by their peers to get involved in street and
gang life.
The education programs basically require teachers who are competent and can help the
high school students to achieve relevant skills which can enable them to secure jobs in different
sectors of the economy and earn income for their daily upkeep. The high school students also
require coaches who can help them in sports training so as to make them better people in the
society. They can also participate in sports like soccer at the national or international levels where
they are paid for their performance and participation hence keeping them away busy and away
from the influence of their peers who are involved in gang life. Due to the fact that it is hard to get
access to such sports participation even for the sports talented high school students because they
lack the relevant ways of introducing themselves into such programs makes them more vulnerable
to their peers’ influence into joining gang life. (Alleyne & Wood, 2014).

The setting up of warehouses to be the students’ place of conducting exhibitions and
professional trainings can also be used as a strategy of keeping them away from the influence of
their peers into joining of gang life. This is sometimes har...
