WHY IS CONSERVATISM ON THE RISE?

Conservatism is a political policy that is based on social and traditional stability,
preferring gradual development to unexpected change and stressing conventional institutions
(Scruton, 1980), specifically, such a philosophy necessitating lower taxes, restricted government
regulations on business and investing individual financial responsibility for personal needs, and
sturdy national protection. Conservatives have varyingly delved to perpetuate institutions
including monarchy, social hierarchy, property rights, religion, parliamentary government,
enunciating continuity and stability whereas the supplementary extreme elements known as
reactionaries contest modernism and delve and revisit ‘how things were’ (Heywood, 2003).
There is an absence of set protocols that are unanimously marked as conservative since
the interpretation of conservatism relies on what is cloistered as a tradition in a stringent place
and time. Therefore, conservatives from various localities in the world, each vindicating their
respective traditions, may diverge on an extensive collection of issues. An eighteenth-century
politician known as Edmund Burke, who defied the French Revolution but backed the American
Revolution, is listed among the major theorists of conservatism in the 1970s in Great Britain.
British Conservative Party’s chairman in 1959, Quintin Hogg, says that; Conservatism is not just
a philosophy as it is an attitude, a continuous force, executing an ageless function in the
progression of a free society, and conforming to a deep and perennial prerequisite of human
nature. In comparison to the traditional annotation of conservatism, political theorists like Corey
Robin characterize conservatism based on a common defense of economic and social inequality.
From this viewpoint, conservatism is less an effort to sustain traditional institutions and more a
theoretical rendition of and meditation on the felt experience of possessing power, seeing it
susceptible, and attempting to win it back (McLean, 2009).
Why is Conservatism on the rise? Broad question, complex answer: in my view,
conservatisms has always been predominant to liberalism in the coherence of conservative ideas
