Also, there is a Project benefit management plan created by the PM aligned with the business case (PMBOK). Continuous improvement in key areas like new technologies, new product development, quality, customer satisfaction, and process performance need to always be a focus in order to be one of the top if not THE top in the game.Managements role in continual improvement, according to Goetsch & Davis (2014), is to play the leadership role and perform tasks such as establishing a quality council for the organization and serving as a member. Leadership from management would mean working with the quality council to establish quality improvement goals with a timetable and targets dates, provide needed moral and physical support, schedule periodic process reviews while giving recognition where it’s due, and build quality improvement into a reward system, like bonuses and pay increases.Regarding if management should pursue an extremely costly improvement that nets only a small improvement, I think it depends on the impact of the improvement. Is the improvement going to positively impact the business long-term? Does it bring a positive ROI and lead to additional opportunities for the business? If through that process, a costly approach is discovered as the improvement solution, and the business reaps great rewards long-term, then yes, they should pursue.
