a) what is the basic building block of an 802.11 WLAN
802.11 is the WLAN network basic building block to its Basic Services Set. The Basic
Services Set defines all stations within its coverage area that remain to be fully connected.
802.11 WLAN is made up of set services, defined by their architectural artifacts, layers and by
their implementation independence. Its services are achieved from the messages between its
entities, from the distribution system, the APs, and the STA/Client. The messages are usually
composed of frames in turn (Stallings, & Tahiliani, 2014).
b) Define an extended service set.
The extended service set, is that set made up of two or even more Basic Service Sets,
forming a single sub network. Each of the BSS usually consists of one access point, together
with other wireless client devices, which are the stations referred to as the STAs that creates a
802.11 local or enterprise wireless WLAN. Part of layer 2 of the logical control link layer of the
OSI 7-layer Reference Model, the extended service set does appear as the basic service set
solitary at its STAs (Gregory, 2015).
c) list and briefly define IEEE 802.11 services
The IEEE 802.11 Service provides LLC layer functions that are required in the sending of
MAC Service Data Units that exists between two entities within a network. The services
implemented by MAC layer are categorized by the distribution system services and the station
services...
