Introduction
Employee hiring and recruitment have been termed to be some of critical activities an
organization engages in. At such a point, it is important to come up with a standard system upon
which the applications are reviewed. Standard system will assist both the interviewing as well as
hiring committee in selecting the best candidates for any position (Aviation maintenance
technician handbook, 2012). Sheridan Apartments seeks to employee a maintenance technician/
janitor and various candidates have presented their resumes. In our case, we are required to assess
application resumes, examine the recruitment strategies applied, and appropriate selection
techniques and analyzing the suitability of each candidate.
Assessment of the resume
For our case, we have three candidates to be assessed; Joe Johnston, Rose E. Smith and Jan
I. Tor. The three have presented their resumes seeking for the selected position. In order to be fair
during selection of the appropriate employee among the three, we will have to assess the resume
of each other of them. For Joe Johnston, he attended welding and machining classes in both
Community and Valley colleges. He currently works as head of maintenance at Congregation
Illinois performing duties not limited to; general cleaning of areas around the premises,
maintenance and repair duties such as plumbing, painting, light electrical, 24 hours on call and
performing many other maintenance related tasks.
He worked as a Grind Hand in manufacturing at Illinois performing manufacturing related
tasks to ensure that the final products reflect the manufacturing specifications. He earlier worked
as a Core maker at the Manufactures Brass and Aluminum, IL manufacturing cores for brass and
aluminum castings. He also worked at Aluminum Foundry, California as the Maintenance
