People with a mental health condition receive legal penalties for the various crimes they
commit. A lot of controversies arise among lawyers and psychiatrists on the issue of offenses and
the penalties charged to individuals who commit crimes and are mental disorder patients. Most
of the people with a mental health condition often commit crimes and hostility whose legal
consequences are quite unbearable worsening the status of the patients, disturbing the family and
even involving their psychiatrists in court matters. Antisocial personality disorder has been
associated with mentally ill individuals and has been seen to result in potentially criminal
behavior. The research will focus on discussing the relevant literature and theories to understand
the relationships between antisocial personality disorder and criminal behavior.
Antisocial Personality Disorder
Antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) is a condition that is associated with persons who
continuously fail to conform to social norms and often display criminal tendencies and do not
want to associate with others. Neuroscientists try to implicate that ASPD can be explained by a
wide range of brain regions and mechanisms to understand the severity levels. It is, however,
important to look into other multiple biological pathways to explain antisocial behaviors and not
relate all aspects of it to brain abnormalities. Conduct disorder (CD) for instance, is considered
a primary precursor for most of the antisocial personality disorder experienced by a significant
ASPD patients. Conduct behavior is imminent where an individual has a longstanding pattern of
