Evolution of the Internet
The internet is a system that links devices globally through the use of internet protocol
suite. The system is made up of networks of interconnected computers that consists of academic,
public, private, and government networks linked by optical networking and electronic
technologies (Kim et al.53). It is a source of extensive information and service resources such as
documents, applications, electronic mail, file sharing, social networking, trading, etc. Since its
commissioning in the 1960s, the internet has significantly improved the lives of human beings.
Through the web, people have been presented with faster and cheaper means of communication,
wide-ranging resources, and materials for research purposes. Also, easier and secure ways of
carrying out financial transactions, a variety of goods and services to consumers as well as a
large market for sellers and businesses, unique and mind blowing entertainment have been
provided and many others.
The united states government through its defense department started research on the
internet in the late 1960s. The study which was conducted by the Advanced Research Projects
Agency (ARPA), experimented on the interconnection of computer networks with an aim to
build a stable and fault-tolerant communication system. Multiple parties, i.e., companies and
universities were awarded grants to get involved in the research to make the experiment more
