In today’s time, Americans consume many forms of energy like renewable energy,
nuclear energy, natural gas among others. Half a century ago, Americans’ biggest energy
consumption was gasoline. In the 1970’s there was an increase in demand for gasoline in the
country and the domestic oil production was insufficient. This led to the growth of dependence
on imported oil. American’s were, however, afraid that the prices of oil would spike and that the
small supply of oil would finally end so new policies were created to prevent that. For example,
the American’s leaders called for measures to conserve energy at home level by asking home
owners to refrain from using holiday lights. They also asked gas stations to close their businesses
on Sundays for the same reason. Some leaders also reconsidered the use of fossils fuels and other
renewable energy as a source of energy for the American people. In 1992, an energy policy act
was created to elevate energy consumption while utility laws were amended so that the American
people could use clean energy that was renewable. The act also included various ways of
reducing the country’s dependency on imported oil. It allowed amendments to the Public Utility
Holding Company act of 1935 that allowed small utility companies to remain competitive with
