Introduction

The main purpose of this research is to explain more about my internship as a software
developer in Envision InfoSolutions, Inc. Also, this Action Research will provide me with some
insight on the expectations of the Envision InfoSolutions Inc. from me as a software developer
during the internship (Zhou, Huo, Huang, & Xu, 2014). Envision InfoSolutions Inc. is an IT
company firm whose objective is to transform and streamline business requirements step-by-step
through offering technology that is aligned, quality services and solutions which are goal
oriented. The company is committed to its clients and handles its customers as their operational
model and core functions. The company aims at improving the profit, productivity, and
proficiency of its clients, as well as, offering employees with exclusive and rewarding chances.
The company delivers the best strategic recruitment and offers professional, technical and
traditional staffing services to major companies in the country. The company has the latest
technologies that help in finding out the best solutions to challenges faced by clients.
A software developer refers to an individual who deals with the process of coming up
with software including the programming, design, research, and testing of computer software
(Ell, 2013). As a software developer in Envision InforSlutions Inc. (IES) I will play the role of
systems or software architects by designing computer interactions and multi-leveled architecture
of a large system of software.
According to Ell (2013), software developer develops and maintains websites and
computer software. Ambler (2013), asserts that software developers are the artistic minds behind
the computer applications and programs. Therefore, as a software developer, I will come up with
applications that permit people to carry out particular tasks on a computer or other electronic
devices. Besides, I will develop systems that will operate on devices and manage networks.

Minnesota, Merchant, Gould, and Minnesota (2000), argues that software developers are
required to have relevant skills in the area of computer science, engineering, information
technology, programming, computer science related knowledge or any studies related to IT. As a
software developer, I am a professional who is self-motivated and has a great experience on main
programming languages like C#, C++, C, JAVA, Javascript, Oracle, Python, XML, UNIX,
UML, HTTP, Linux and Smalltalk, as well as, other tools used in testing software.
In EIS I will apply my problem solving and debugging skills, excellent understanding and
knowledge in tools of developing software and technology, excellent interpersonal skills in
ensuring that the company achieves its objectives.
In the internship, I will be tasked with developing software using techniques that are tried
and tested such as Crystal Methods Methodology, Feature Driven Development Methodology,
Agile Software Development, Scrum Methodology among others. According to Zhou, Huo,
Huang, & Xu (2014), as software developers, I will be responsible for detailed designing and
planning, generation of documentation with the intention of auditing a project, risk analysis,
requirement analysis and adherence to coding guidelines and standards.
In conclusion, this Action research will help in elaborating more about how as a software
developer I will help other people in the society through the power technology. This is because
as software a developer can influence other people's way of living through their programs.

Methodology

This Action Research is meant to provide me with some insight on the expectations of the
Envision InfoSolutions Inc. from me as a software developer during the internship. An Action
Research is a scholarly tactic to improve the learning and teaching, and it is a key part in

professional development. An Action Research is a research based on a project, and it is of great
significance to students on internships, librarians, counselors and professors since it actively
involves them in a joint study of learning as it happens on a daily basis. Through Action
Research, members of the same faculty can investigate queries pertaining student learning that
affects their practices directly. It helps in demonstrating how some critical competencies are
practical in practice (Double Exposure/Flashback TV, 2006).
Lastly, Action Research helps in developing inquiry culture in the working place.
Through it, new techniques are developed, and it helps in increasing the level of questioning in
the work-setting to improve on the output of the interns. One of the techniques developed by
Action Research is concept mapping, where the interns take the main concept, and in a format of
the web or a chart, they break it down to smaller concepts and connect them using linking terms.

Defining Action Research

According to Action Learning, Action Research Association and Informit (2016), Action
Research is research conducted to solve an instant challenge or a reflective process of continuous
problem solving caused by people working together as a team to improve the mechanisms of
addressing issues and solving problems.
Stringer (2014), argues that action involve participating actively in a change situation,
mostly through an existing organization, while carrying out the research. Action Research as an
interactive process of inquiry that balances actions implemented in solving problems in a joint
context with data-driven joint analysis or research meant to explain the causes that enable future
predictions concerning an individual or organizational change (Double Exposure/Flashback TV,
2006).

According to Stringer (2014), Action Research challenges ancient social science by
moving past reflective knowledge formed outside experts sampling variables, to an active timeto-time data collection, theorizing, and inquiry happening in emergent structures.
Lastly, Action Learning, Action Research Association and Informit (2016), defines Action
Research as a disciplined way of inquiry carried out by and for the people taking action.
According to him, the main reason for taking part in this kind of research is to help the "actor" in
refining and to improve his or her actions.

History of Action Research

Action research started to assert a different type of research in the field of human and
social sciences after the publication of the Action Research and Minority Problems article by
Kurt Lewin’s in 1946. Kurt Lewin is taken as the founder of this research, and the delimitation of
the action research is one of his main contributions to the growth of psycho-sociology.
Later, Jacob Levi Moreno made a great contribution in designing the structure of action research.
According to Stringer (2014), a part of the research conducted by Kurt Lewin, a similar research
was carried out by Tavistock Institute in London on ailments suffered by soldiers who
participated in the World War II.
The research was then supported widely, and it was significantly adopted in the 1940s. In the
1950s, the research was said to be not scientific because its findings were not specific lading to
the decline in its applications.
However, after the questioning of the application of scientific research in education in the
1970s by researchers, the action research re-emerged. Currently, action research is taken as a

vital tool for professional development (Caro-Bruce & TeachStream (Firm), 2006). It is viewed
as a potential way of improving the performance of students in a classroom environment.

Steps in Action Research

According to Stringer (2014), there are seven steps in carrying out an action research.
The first step is selecting focus. This happens through serious reflection focused on topic
identification. The second step is identifying the beliefs, theoretical perspectives and values the
researchers hold about their focus. Then, research questions are selected, and the beliefs and
perspectives of the researchers are clarified. The next step is data collection. In this stage, the
researchers need to use different methods of data collection so that the data can be reliable and
valid. The fifth step is analyzing data using friendly patterns and trends. The sixth is reporting
the results, and the last step is taking an informed action depending on the findings of the
research. Action research steps in a classroom set-up are summarized in the figure below.
