Critical Essay: Similarities and Differences
A lot of arguments has been there purporting that there are some similarities and
differences in the management practices in the United States compared to other countries in
Europe as well as Africa, South America or even Asia. Multinational firms with a global strategy
find it difficult to homogenize these strategies across the various nations in which they operate
and therefore compelled to localize based on regionally oriented approaches in management
practices in leadership, planning, and organization. Most United States firms that have the
financial muscle to expand their operation beyond the United States local territories has been
compelled to contend with complying with regionalized thinking to be successful. The biggest
cause of the contrasting managerial practices between the United States and other nations is
cultural differences. The different cultures of diverse people in different nations cause great
variations in the perception of relations with other people, attitudes towards time and the
environment, delineation of self and others, alignment toward risk, motivational orientation and
other human aspects of the emotional bearing. The management practices in projects and
organization are bound to differ between states Vis a Vis cultural difference (Jorgensen, B.
2003).
