Question 4.1. Machine vision and video image detection
Machine vision is defined as the possibility of using any machine to obtain information about its
surrounding environment and be able of analyzing the obtained information. It is commonly performed
through the simultaneous action of sensors and computer or mathematical algorithms. Taking the above
definition into account, systems based on video imaging detection would be considered to be machine
vision systems as long as they incorporate not only the video sensing device, but also the necessary
software or mathematical algorithm to be able of interpreting the obtained images.
The main advantages of using these systems in comparison to other machine vision devices are:

Video image detection devices can detect any obstacles in the field of view as far as 50 meters
from the video camera
Video image detection devices can be used to detect time-dependent images. The temporal
resolution will depend on the time elapsed between the electric pulses that turn the video
camera on and off
Video image detection devices can distinguish between a moving object and a still ob...
