Description

Going to upload a example of how it should look like. My theory I chose is Work and Retirement on pg 528 and 529.

  1. Name one concept, theory, or research finding that you learned from this week’s reading. You are to provide the page number from where you retrieved this information. (.25 x 2 = .5)
  1. Provide a background of the theory/concept, covering the name of theory, theorist, or concept, and what the theory says about human development or behavior. (.25)
  1. Describe an illustrative example of this theory concept in everyday life. The illustrative example should provide sufficient detail and link your example to specific course concepts. Use examples from your personal experiences, informal observations of those around you, or the media. (.25)
  1. In Chapter 16 we are introduced to Late adulthood. Please read the following ethical dilemma and address each questions that follows. (1 point)

“In June, 1997, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that terminally ill people do not have a constitutional right to doctor assisted suicide".

In January 2006, the U.S Supreme Court ruled that the Bush administration’s attempts to stop Oregon doctors from prescribing lethal doses were improper. The immediate legal impact of the Court’s ruling is clear. Oregon doctors may continue to prescribe lethal doses without fear of federal penalty.

At the time of this writing, physician-assisted suicide was legal in four states in the United States: Oregon, Washington, Vermont and Montana. It is also legal in some other countries. In three states in the United States, there are barriers to use this type of suicide. For example, Pamela J. Miller (2000, p. 264) describes the process in the state of Oregon:

To qualify to receive a prescription for medication to end life, the person must be terminally ill with six months or less to live, and a second physician’s opinion on diagnosis and prognosis is required. After the first oral request to start the process, a 15-day waiting period begins. A mental health consultation is not required, although either physician can request an evaluation by a psychiatrist or psychologist, and notification of family and friends is not required. A written request combined with another oral request is obtained, and a 48 hour waiting period begins. The prescription, generally barbiturates and antinausea medication, is then given to the terminally ill person and taken by mouth.” (2016, 2013 Kirst-Ashman, p. 726, Cengage Learning)

  1. Do you believe that the terminally ill have a right to die by refusing treatment?
  2. Do you believe that assisted suicide should be legalized?
  3. If you had a terminally ill close relative who was in intense pain and asked you to assist him or her in acquiring a legal does of drugs, how would you respond?
  4. Would you be willing to help or would you refuse? Why?

Example of how it should be I am providing an example of how to respond to a weekly blog. My examples are in red. You will need to address the black sections in 1 – 4. PLEASE be aware that your theory concept cannot be the same topic as #4 in any weekly blog. (My example does relate to #4, but your topic selection will not.) Your topic cannot be the same topic as any of the Critical Thinking assignments that you will receive in Week’s 3, 5 and 7 as well. Week 1 Blog Assignment: 1. Name one concept, theory, or research finding that you learned from this week’s reading. You are to provide the page number from where you retrieved this information. (.25 x 2 = .5) Do not use my topic. Select your own topic. Week 1 concept: My example: Dimensions of Age. Page 316 FYI: My topic example this week does relate to the #4 question below but your topic selection will not! You will not select a topic that relates to the weekly #4 question ever. You will always select a different topic to address. 2. Provide a brief background of the theory concept, covering the name of theory, or theorist, and what the theory says about human development or behavior. (.25 pts) My example: The concept of “Timing of Lives” is addressed on page 316, chapter 10. This section addresses age-graded differences in roles and behaviors. A person’s chronological age states a value in time, which addresses the biological aspect of behavior, but other influences are noted in this section to influence behavior as well, such as the psychological aspect, the social aspect, and the spiritual aspect. It is the combination of these aspects that support the biopsychosocial perspective regarding influences and behavior. This section begs the question of social grooming in human behavior. I question if boys choose more masculine toys like trucks to play with because they have been groomed by societal expectations, and the same goes for females. Are females groomed to select dolls or play dress up with heels? This section makes me wonder if we as adults are also socially influenced to the point that we make decisions based on what society deems to be correct behavior. I understand the importance of laws, values and living a productive life, but I wonder if we are so influenced by powers such as the media, that we wear, drink and eat what society deems to be the “latest and greatest”, therefore we must have it! 3. Describe an illustrative example of this theory concept in everyday life. The illustrative example should provide sufficient detail and link your example to specific course concepts. Use examples from your personal experiences, informal observations of those around you, or the media. (.25 pts) My example: The example that relates to this concept is in regards to the psychological and social aspect found in this section. My father did not allow my brother to play kickball with the neighborhood girls because my father did not want my brother to be tagged as being a “sissy”. Therefore, my father would only allow my brother to play baseball with the neighborhood boys. 4. According to the “Timing of Lives” concept: (1 pt.) “Age-graded differences in roles and behaviors are the results of biological, psychological, social, and spiritual processes.” (Pg. 316)

Work and retirement

My example: work and retirement on page 528 and 529 chapter, it addresses the history
of work and retirement especially to the older adults. The age limit for the working population to
retire experienced an increase since 1938. The number of old people in the workforce thus
experienced some increase due to different reasons. From the chapter two types of people are
involved, there are those who have the capability to retir...
