    Communication Disorder
A communication disorder is a condition that impairs the capacity of an individual to
detect, understand, or engage in speech and language to effectively hold a conversation with
other people (Rapin, 1983). Communication disorders vary from repetition of sounds to absolute
difficulty in using both speech and language to communicate. Communication disorders can be
grouped into language, speech, stuttering and pragmatic. Some of the communication disorders

    Aphasia
Aphasia is serious communication disorder usually caused by a severe injury to the brain

common cause is stroke as statistics show that close to 40% of stroke victims suffer from
    aphasia.
    Types of Aphasia

An individual suffering from expressive aphasia is aware of what he or she would like to
convey to the other person but finds it very difficult to do so. This applies to both oral and
    written communication.

they hear or read over certain duration. The victims of this condition are able to communicate
using alternative forms of communication such as using sign language.
    Symptoms
The symptoms of aphasia vary in intensity of impairment and how communication is
affected. A person that is suffering from aphasia experiences difficulties in receiving and
conveying messages through spoken language (Davis, 2007). The main symptoms are d...
