Introduction
In the period that I have worked within this organization, I have come across various
instances of conflict between individuals, some involving me personally. Many of these were
quickly dealt with, sometimes with the aid of a mediating party, allowing operations to resume.
Conflicts, when not handled correctly have the potential to impact organizations negatively. In
this paper, I provide a brief overview of conflict, the various types of conflict, its effect on the
overall institutional environment and the various leadership strategies that can be used to
handle it. I also discuss the various things I would do differently as a leader in the management
of conflict within the organization.
Conflict refers to any serious disagreement between individuals or groups due to
differences in ideas, opinions or beliefs. Conflict happens in many if not all organizations or
groups of individuals. It is important, therefore, that we understand the various types of
