CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
Moving to a new environment can be sometimes very challenging as it involves a lot of changes
and adjustments. Looking for a new school, making new friends, locating the best spots for
buying groceries and going for shopping just to mention a few. Some people may find that
settling into this new surrounding very difficult and therefore they can tend to be affected
negatively. For example, being too sensitive to extremely cold weather or hot weather. Others
may become sick while others can just be okay with the weather.
Moving into a new school can also be very challenging, especially for a student whose family
has moved in from abroad into the United States. The challenges of the family aside, this
particular student will face numerous hurdles and try to fit into the education system of the new
country. Most of the new students take time to adapt to the new system which will be too late for
them to catch up to where the other students have reached. Therefore, the educational institutions
have employed some strategies to help such students to adapt faster and also improve their
education.
The government has also identified a special group of people in the international group of
students’ category. These are the international students who require special education for them to
achieve their goals. Many works and many studies have been conducted to come up with new
ways of providing education for international special students within the educational institution.
Students with dyslexia, communication disorders and emotional and behavioral disorders require
special tutors and requirements for them to achieve their personal goals and development.
In addition to previous works done for delivering education to students with special needs, many
scholars have conducted researches on new ways of delivering education to students with
disabilities. This is in line with the long-term goal of ensuring that each student regardless of
their physical appearance has quality education and also foster equality among students. This
research is aimed at learning the life of an immigrated student into the S and how they can be
helped to have a better experience and success in their education.

CHAPTER 2
LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 Introduction.
This section is determined to showcase the studies that have been done before in the field of
special needs and quality education for international students. It will outline some of the works
and write-ups that have done before by other scholars and researchers at large. It will mainly
focus on the approaches used by schools used to provide education to students with special
needs. From adult students to teenagers to pre-school children. From these researches, then new
ideas can be implemented in order to improve the learning of such special groups
American culture has been shaped by people from various backgrounds who come and settled in
the continent as well as the native inhabitants of the country. Awareness of past and recent
experiences of immigrants is necessary for the pursuit of developing necessary strategies and
approaches of ensuring a conducive learning environment for foreign students. This will ensure
that the student is at the same level with the other native students in the same class. Hence,
equity of education among students in an institution will be achieved.
There are many benefits of admitting new international students to the country's educational
institutions. This improves the diversification student numbers in these institutions and also
different opinions during discussions and enable appreciation of different cultures. Some of them
arrive with extraordinary skills and abilities (Klomegah); (Lee), particularly in science. Most
return home with a lot of positives, satisfaction, and goodwill, hence fostering international
relations with these countries
Studying away from home can sometimes be very frustrating as there is a change of
environment, new people, and cultures. It starts from the immigration challenges like obtaining
the proper paperwork and using the legal channels in order to get a student visa for studies in the
US. This challenge among may affect the international students differently depending on how
fast they can adapt to change. Those who adapt slowly will find it difficult to cope with the new
change.

Assuming the category of children of immigrant families of the ages less than twelve, we can get
reviews of how such children a and observations made. The work of (Dockrell) helped in
establishing terms for those children who are not able to express themselves in the normal way
without any major problems as their peers and also where the difficulty is not caused by sensory
or physical impairment. This inability to self-express your feelings effectively is said to affect
about 7.5% of the child population.

2.2 Challenges faced by international students in the US
These are the difficulties that the international students have to endure while studying abroad
in the US. These challenges (Nickels) come from all directions and the immigrant student has
to face them and persevere. Some of the challenges are explained:

2.2.1 Change of environment and climate and living conditions of the US.
This is attributed to the difference in time zones and also different climate. Therefore, their
bodies have to reset and conform to the new adjustments of time and climate. This results
in the development of feelings of confusion, disorientation and in some cases, spiritual
displacement. (Myburgh).
2.2.2 Cultural differences with the native people.
Culture is the way of life of a people and it covers values, beliefs, and rules. It also
encompasses social structures, religion, and manners (Nickels). Some of the challenges that
these students from immigrant families will face include changes in taste of food, views
regarding sexual openness and gender roles. (Myburgh) Conducted a study on culture and
its effects on students from immigrant families. He noticed that these students faced an
uphill task of adapting to the new American culture and interestingly found loopholes in
their home culture. For example, gender-based violence and gender discrimination.

2.2.3 Acceptance by the American society.
New families in the US may face rejection due to the news they have received portraying
their home country. This might cause some of the American mainstream individuals and
societies to resist against them and eventually rejection. This feeling of not being wanted
by anyone can cause depression to some immigrants. As a result, most international
students work really hard to try and fit in the society. In a recent study, many students
emphasized the importance of knowing other cultures and skills of international students
(Myburgh). With respect to lab experiments, a research in Finland on information
technology had similar results (Holvikivi). They reported not to understand the institution’s
expectations and most times they were found to be ignorant of requirements of the
university. Most students, therefore, neglected to try and und...
