The Implicit Attitude Test on Race, I believe, seeks to show that there is an implicit bias in
everyone. Whether this bias makes us more prone to African Americans or to White Americans
would depend on our upbringing and exposure to both cultures. Though, the effects of
institutionalized racial dynamics cannot be ignored when considering the way in which a person’s
subconscious preferences are manifested. For example, it would make sense for a person that is
living under a system of white supremacy to show an implicit bias towards Black Americans.
Likewise, those who might have grown in an environment that actively rejects notions of its kind
might show the opposite bias when taking the test. The respondents will answer in a way that is
consistent with the cultural influence that shaped them, even if they have made a conscious effort
to distance themselves from these teachings.
I enjoyed taking the test, even though I received results that I was not expecting, because
it gives the respondent an opportunity to challenge their views or, at least, to question the reason
for their preferences. When going through the total results, provided after the questionnaires end,
it is possible to see a predictable trend manifesting: most people who answered the test have shown
