Question Description

For this week's discussion question I would like you to go to YouTube and find a FULL-LENGTH adaptation of The Last of the Mohicans. It can be the 1992 Daniel Day Lewis version, or an earlier TV or movie adaptation (see below). Please watch it, take notes, mark times of scenes. Then I would like you to write a 400-500 word essay discussing how the movie/show adapts the characteristics of the Historical Novel as we defined them in class --- in other words, what is the function of the "Vanishing Indian" and of the transitional hero (Hawkeye) in the movie? Try to address/speculate how the version fit the needs of the era in which it was made. (Remember: the historical novel always addresses issues of its own time through the lens of the past)

You should cite the movie as you would a secondary source. For MLA style on movies, go to this link: http://www.bibme.org/citation-guide/mla/film/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

For info you might need on a movie, go to IMDB at http://www.imdb.com/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. and search for your version.

Some possible examples:

the full 1992 movie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aimnTLZ63Vc (Links to an external site.)
