IMMIGRANT PARENTS WITH EDUCATION SYSTEM

Introduction
For America to achieve its mission and vision in the education system, the schools must seek
support from parents to help facilitate the learning programs. The school faculty must be aware
of the obstacles and challenges that may prevent immigrant parents from being involved in their
children’s education. They should involve teaching staff, students, parents and even the support
staff in decision making in matters pertaining the progress of students. It is important to note that
involving parents in their children education will without any doubt bring a positive impact in
their learning process. The basic obligations of parents are preparing children for school,
ensuring children’s health and safety, discipline, provide a good friendly environment that favor
learning at home, supervise and guide children at each level. Immigration has been a critical
aspect of demography without showing any sign of slowing down

Interaction with American education system
The American government should find a solution to the academic challenges that are facing
children from immigrant families. First and foremost, it should be noted that it has been a
daunting task for the schools in America to educate the immigrant children. This is because of
the economic and social differences that are being exhibited by the immigrants. This calls for
urgency for addressing this issue. The American government has proclaimed to be spending over
$10 billion annually a figure which is anticipated to double should these immigrants be offered
amnesty. The center of immigration studies carried out a survey to find out the input of the
immigrants to the economy against the cost of what they enjoy and came out with a result
showing that immigrants’ consumption is more than half of what they contribute. The report

gave an estimation of the immigrant cost rising drastically causing a deficit amount to$29 billion
should they be granted legal status.(Firzgerald,2005).The major reason for this deficit is the low
level of education which as a result lead to low incomes and payment of taxes.
The director of National Immigration Forum, Frank Sharry noted with a lot of concern why the
report took pains in showing the cost of immigrant children, but decided to overlook the
contribution of the children as taxpayers .Frank Sharry made a conclusion that the immigration
affairs and border restrictions that have been instituted by the American system required a total
over-haul. According to the survey the immigrants should be granted citizenship or allowed to
apply for citizenship upon living in US for a given period of time. Most people about 72%
express a deep confidence in the contribution of immigrants towards building of America. The
rest(28%) on the other hand argued that illegal immigrants should not be granted
citizenship(Johnson, &Albornoz,2008).
According to Checkfact organization, the American government is under no circumstance
obligated to offer services to immigrant children apart from very few selected cases mostly
‘emergency’ benefits and in extension to that the immigrant children can attend public schools
with states conferring different benefit. For example in Kansas there is tuition break for state
universities and colleges for illegal immigrants. This therefore means that the immigrant
children’s chance of receiving quality education is dependent on the parents earning power.
There have been increased government raids on employers and swoops on immigrant workers.
Education is not only a basic right to everyone regardless of race, color or religion but also an
empowering tool, voice and channel to seek for other human rights. This increased raid by the
government on employers has caused a great concern on the immigrants. The illegal immigrants
then live with constant fear with hop that the government’s long arm of law does not reach them.

This kind of harassment eventually negatively affects the education for the children of illegal
immigrants. These children live in fear that their parents can anytime get arrested by the police
and land to the deportation office. This perpetual fear in the end result affects their level of
concentrations in academics which eventually make them get lower grades. The immigrant
children seldom interact with people from other groups perceived to be of higher social class and
this is an abuse to the children’s right to education that we so self-righteously preach to protect.
The American education system is one of the most important systems of ensuring that there is an
integration of these immigrants and their children in the American society. It is with beyond
reasonable doubt that few learning institutions play such an essential task on the lives of
immigrants and their children.
There has been the question of policies and laws of immigration being shifted, apart from the
biased education system. The U.S immigration laws have however changed, taking into account
the composition of immigrant’s population. There is a lot that is needed to be done to address
these inconsistencies in accessing the education system by the natives and th...
